Based on the true story of Jack Gruener: 10-year old Yanek Gruener spent most of his life under the control of the Nazis who had taken over their homey town of Krakow. It was horrible, but not intolerable, living under the Nazis' eyes. However, Yanek's family is taken and he is forced to hide in their neighbor's pigeon coop until the ruthless soldiers take him too.

It resonated within me. I had never understood how cruel the Nazis and Hitler were until now. It is a truly great story, and will stay with you forever.

I recommend this to daring fifth graders and middle schoolers.
